Parkway Families and Friends,
Welcome to another exciting school year! This will be my third year with Alliance City Schools and I am more proud than ever to be a part of the amazing growth that is taking place here. I think this time of year is a perfect opportunity to look at where we have been...and where we are going.
One of the biggest changes in the last couple of years was the restructuring of school buildings. This restructuring allowed for Parkway and Rockhill to design grade-level teams that include general education teachers, an Intervention Specialist and a Literacy Numeracy teacher, without hiring new staff. This means smaller classroom numbers in all reading and math classes!
In the last two years, we have been blessed with new materials in Science, and a Math adoption with new materials for this coming school year. We took on iReady, an online instructional and diagnostic tool for monitoring growth and performance in Reading and Math. The data we have gained from this tool has helped teachers set individual goals and differentiate more than ever.
We have been able to purchase Chrome Books, essentially adding a computer lab on a cart for each grade level. This (in addition to the iPads) puts technology into the hands of our students, a necessity for 21st Century teaching and learning.
So where are we going?
At Parkway, you will hear a lot this year about growing learners, and we will share with you the ways we are doing it and how you can help. You will travel with us as we start year one of the Eureka! Math adoption and challenge students to read more, think differently, and collaborate with peers. Collaboration will be a major focus, as will the five other Aviator Profile characteristics. Maybe most important, will be the theme of building relationships with families, students, and staff, because without that foundation, learning is less meaningful.
I look forward to the year ahead and everything is brings. Thank you for all that you do for Parkway and Alliance City Schools!
