District Announcements
Annual Aviator Sports Boosters Pasta Dinner will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 before the Alliance vs Marlington Boys varsity basketball game from 4-7 PM in the AHS cafeteria. Master Chef, ACS Superindent Peter Basil wil be making his famous homemade pasta sauce. Dine-in is all you care to eat pasta. Tickets are $7. Pre-sale tickets available from: all ACS administrators, ACS school board members, head sports coaches, Aviator Sports Booster members, event chairs Buddy & Lori Gasparik, and Aviator Sports Boosters President, Stephanie Unckrich. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Carry-out is available.

Aviator "gear" will be on sale at  the Alliance vs Marlington boys basketball game Friday, Feb 3rd begining at 6PM thru the varsity tip-off in the lobby area outside the gym.

Mark Wood, former lead violinist for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, will be visiting the Alliance City Schools orchestra program on February 8 - 9, 2012.  Mr. Wood will conduct workshops with the orchestra students, and his visit will conclude with a rock orchestra concert on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 7:00pm in the Alliance High School Auditorium.  Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students (general seating) and may be purchased from Crystal Sabik, orchestra director, by calling 330-829-1234 x2265 or via email (sabikcr@alliancecityschools.org).
OTELA Testing SOON
The 2012 Ohio Tests of  English Language Acquisition (OTELA) will be administered to all English Language Learners (ELL) in grades K-12 beginning January 17 through March 9, 2012.  The OTELA is the assessment used to annually evaluate the English language proficiency of K-12 students receiving ESL (English as a Second Language) services.  The OTELA assesses four language domains: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.  The students’ OTELA results will be sent home to parents in May.  Please contact us at 330-821-2105 if you have any questions. 
Early Dismissal Day ADDED February 24th

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS: One additional Early Dismissal Day has been scheduled for February 24th, 2012. The district is hosting a second multi-school Wrestling Tournament which will bring hundreds of wrestlers and families to Alliance City Schools and the City of Alliance. Students will be dismissed from school two hours earlier than normal on the 24th. All bus transportation will be timed accordingly. All district staff will have inservice.

5th Graders Moving On Up!
 The Alliance Elementary Schools in conjunction with Alliance Middle School are excited to announce monthly activities that will make Moving On Up to the 6th grade a positive and exciting time!  Check out the activities below that are planned to make this transition from elementary to middle school a seamless one!  We encourage you and your child to take advantage of these opportunities, as your 5th graders gets ready for Moving On Up!

Jan. 23: 6th Grade Videoconference Chat
Jan. 24: Parent Open House @ AMS: 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Jan. 30: Girls' Basketball Game @ 5 p.m. at AMS (Fifth Graders attend FREE!)
Feb.  1:  Boys' Basketball Game @ 5 p.m. at AMS (Fifth Graders attend FREE!)
Mar. 23: Academic All-Star Activities and Dance: 6:30-8:00 p.m. (Fifth Graders with a 3.24 average or higher will be
             invited to attend Academic Success Night)
April 16/17: Lunch with the Principals (Mr. Gasparik and Mr. Dobran will visit the schools and eat lunch w/ Fifth Graders)
May 22: Shadow Day (Fifth Graders will be transported to AMS after SFA Reading to shadow a 6th grade student for the
             rest of the school day.)
